Everyone has a good ghost story! Our favourite pop stars are not immune to otherworldly spirits and forces and are not provided added protection under the cloak of fame. We’ve rounded up some of the scariest celeb ghost stories. Some are outrageous, others are questionable and some seem downright believable. Read on and decide for yourself…
‘California Gurl’ reportedly received a freak out at a home in L.A. while on a set. The ‘Roar’ singer was apparently alone in the master suite and saw a mustachioed man staring back at her in a mirror. “Katy raced from the room and down the enormous staircase, screaming at the top of her lungs! Everyone tried to calm her down. She told them she would not return to that room, and wanted to get out of the house immediately,” a source claimed.
The British singer was reportedly so spooked by spirits that she didn’t want to sleep in her new $6 million crib after “hearing things that made her jump.” The mansion used to be a convent, which seems like the perfect place for un-resting spirits to dwell. The ‘Someone Like You’ singer hired a bodyguard to protect her, although we’re not sure that’d be much of a help when it comes to battling ghosts on the property.
The ‘We Can’t Stop’ singer rented a flat in London, which was converted from a haunted bakery with history. She explained that her little sister was once burned in the shower when the water inexplicably turned to hot without the knob was being touched. Cyrus also said she “thought I had seen a little boy sitting on the sink watching me take a shower so I felt really freaked out.” Yikes! “I was sitting there the next night and maybe I’m crazy, but I could have sworn I could see this little boy sitting there on the sink, kicking his feet.”
The Adam Levine fronted band recorded ‘It Won’t Be Soon Before Long’ in Harry Houdini’s said to be haunted L.A. county home. Maroon 5 guitarist James Valentine saw a benevolent ghost on the stairs and “never felt any bad vibes.” So, it was a Casper the Friendly Ghost like experience. We wonder if it influenced the recording of the album on some cosmic level.
Demi deems her house in Texas as “so ridiculously haunted.” However, it’s not inhabited by a malicious spirit; it’s a little girl she believes is named Emily. “I’ve had a medium come over and ghost hunters and they both told me the same name, Emily. When I was 3 years old my mom caught me talking to something by myself. She asked, ‘Who are you talking to?’ and I said, ‘My best friend Emily.’” She also revealed a spooky story that happened to her friend Tucker at her house. “We started to watch a movie when all of a sudden a laptop in my kitchen started to play a movie also. It was a black screen before, so it was a question of who turned it on and hit play. And after that Tucker texted a friend saying, “I think this house is haunted, a movie just turned on by itself,” and there was a “glitch” in his phone that kept texting him back the word “definitely” over and over again.” Plus, “I have crazy footage of just orbs flying through the air… It’s crazy stuff.”
The ‘Crazy Kids’ singer moved because her L.A. home was haunted. The occupation even inspired her smash hit song ‘TiK ToK,’ too! “I’d always try to convince my friends to spend the night, ’cause I wouldn’t get haunted on if they were there,” Kesha remembered. “I woke up one morning, surrounded by all my girlfriends. I woke up feeling like P. Diddy!” So something positive in this case, a memorable lyric, came out of her being creeped out, right?
In 2010, it was reported that Gaga believed a ghost named Ryan was following and “annoying” her with his near constant presence. She was terrified, even though he did not do anything violent or scary. Mama Monster reportedly had a seance (communication with the spirits), since she believes in paranormal activity and would rather be safe than sorry. Gaga also believes that her late Aunt Joanne instilled her spirit within her from beyond. Joanne, who was a painter and a poet, died at 19 and Gaga thinks it is her calling to finish her deceased aunt’s vision. Her real name is Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta, so…
‘American Idol’ House
‘American Idol’ contestants used to crash out in a nine bedroom Bel Air Mansion. Season 10’s Lauren Alaina and James Durbin say the house, which sold in 2011 for $11.2 million, has otherworldly inhabitants. “I saw something white that looked like an arm,” Durbin said. Alaina added, “Me and Pia Toscano were upstairs and the doors flew open. We were watching a scary movie before that and we were already freaked out.”
