New Year Celebrations Around The World

New Year is the time when new calendar years begin and calendar years counts increase. The New Year day falls on 1st January of every year according to Gregorian calendars. In many countries, such as the Czech Republic, Italy, Spain, UK, and the United States, 1 January is a national holiday. When at the Western Europe, Julian calendar was still in use. The people used to celebrate the New Year day at several days like, 1 March, 25 March, Easter, 1 September, and 25 December. These days changed into 1st January when the Georgian Calendar was adopted in 1582. Every state has its own right to celebrate this eve with its own devotion as it is the beginning of a new life.

Canadians are naturally religious people and celebrate this eve very religiously. It is a social holiday for the people of Canada. They go through with large celebrations like late night parties, fireworks, sporting events, concerts and etc. In rural areas of Canada they use to ice fish and drink different varieties of beverages with their friends until early hours of January 1.

In the United States people celebrates New Year eve’s with formal parties, family oriented activities and other large public events. They share their great happiness with friends and family. Enjoy their life and go through it easily! The most prominent celebration of the people is the “Ball Drop” held in New York’s city. New Year’s Eve is traditionally the busiest day of the year at Disneyland, where the parks stay open late and the usual nightly fireworks are boasted by an additional New Year’s eve specific show at midnight.

United Kingdom
Celebration there focuses the Big Ben Bell and by association. The clock strike at the 11:59 housed at the clock tower at the palace of Westminster. They use to play different rocking soundtracks and wait to see the eight minute fireworks which are so wonderful. On the other hand Biddeford, US is also known for the New Year eve celebrations featuring carnivals and fancy dress. In Scotland, New Year Eve is celebrated with different customs, such as first footing, which involve family and friends going to each other’s houses with gifts or some variety of lump of coal. Other cities across Scotland, such as Aberdeen, Glasgow and Sterling have large organized celebrations too, including fireworks at midnight.

In Italy, New Year Eve is celebrated in a different way. It is celebrated by the observation of traditional rituals. Dinner is traditionally eaten with relatives and friends. They use to eat special meals. Fireworks are displayed all over the country. A lentil stew is also eaten when bell rings midnight; this is supposed to bring good fortune.

The New Year is one of Brazil’s main holidays. It officially marks the beginning of the summer holidays, which last until carnival. Brazilians traditionally have a plentiful meal with family or friends at home in restaurants or private clubs. Those spending New Year’s Eve at the beach usually dress in white to bring good luck into the New Year. Fireworks and eating grapes or lentils are customs associated with the holiday. In other regions different events also take place. At Fortaleza, Ceara there is a party in Praia de Iracema area.

Each major city in Australia holds New Year’s Eve celebrations usually accompanied by a fireworks display and other events. The largest celebration of New Year eve is in the biggest city of Australia; Sydney. The fireworks are organized to a mixture of popular music and a lighting display called the “Bridge Effect”. Most of the firework shows in Melbourne are displayed from boats along the river.

In China, celebrations of the Gregorian New Year are held in some areas, particularly in Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou and Xiamen. A light and sound show has been held at the Bund in Shanghai. In China, it is also known as the Spring Festival, the literal translation of the modern Chinese name. Chinese New Year celebrations traditionally run from Chinese New Year’s Eve, the last day of the last month of the Chinese calendar, to the Lantern Festival on the 15th day of the first month, making the festival the longest in the Chinese calendar. Normally this is the family reunion dinner, especially for those with family member away from home. In the New Year’s Eve dinner, normally fish will be served. Dumplings are the most important dish in northern china. These two dishes mean prosperous. Other dishes are depending on personal preference. The majority of Chinese will have New Year’s Eve dinner at home.

Pakistani people enjoy this eve with love and joy. In Karachi people visit different beaches to see beautiful fireworks at night. Lahore people are known for their open hearts. They celebrate New Year’s Eve with zeal. Youth of Islamabad enjoy it by visiting restaurants in posh areas. Pakistani youth is more tending towards adopting trend the world over. The youngsters enjoy aerial firing to express one’s joy which is dangerous for common people. They celebrate with the tradition of air rifle shooting from roofs beginning the start of the New Year. All over Pakistan big malls are decorated and many restaurants/hotel offer special discounts.

In Dubai, United Arab Emirates, New Year’s fireworks are set off from Jumeirah Beach and the world’s tallest building, Burj Khalifa. The New Year fireworks display at Burj Khalifa is among the world’s most expensive. Among the various travel destinations all over the world, one destination that has attracted each and every person is Dubai as you can try the Arabic cuisine then no doubt you will get every possible kind of items, but there are equal numbers of foreign cuisines like Japanese, Indian, Italian, Middle Eastern and any other, you name it and you will find it. Many international restaurants are spread all over Abu Dhabi that offer food festivals during this time.

Ambang Tahun Baru, a celebration sponsored by the government is held at Merdeka Square, the field opposite the Sultan Abdul Samad Building in the Malaysian capital of Kuala Lumpur. The event is broadcast live on government as well as private TV stations. In addition, private organizations also hold New Year’s countdown parties at major shopping malls and landmarks. One significant privately run celebration is the fireworks display at the Petronas Towers. Other places you can go to see fireworks displays include Damansara Mutiara, Sunway Pyramid, Bukit Bintang, and Dataran Merdeka, which is also known as Independence Square. Many of Kuala Lumpur’s hotels have their own New Years Eve celebrations like intimate dining, special banquets, parties, stunning balls, and a wide variety of live entertainment.
