Lately I have seen so many K- world related articles in smash so I thought why not write an article on J-movies. If you are an anime and manga fan (like me) then you might know most of these! People usually leave Japanese movies behind because of looks but trust me Japanese movies have one of best stories and most of them are based on mangas. So these are my top 6 Japanese School Life Movies!!
1. Kimi Ni Todoke (From Me To You):
Thoughts: I love this movie so much! I have read its manga and watched its anime too. It has a light hearted story but it truly touches your heart.
Genres: Comedy, Drama, Romance, School
Synopsis: Kuronuma Sawako is a very shy girl, so shy that she has been misunderstood as being malicious. She is compared to the ghost from The Ring and is called Sadako by her classmates. Rumors abound that she can see spirits and curse people. She idolizes the most popular guy in class, Kazehaya Shouta, due to his refreshing personality. When he starts talking to her, it seems like everything starts to change.
2. Ao Haru Ride (Blue Spring Ride):
Thoughts: I love this movie’s manga because it was so beautiful but it doesn’t mean that the movie and anime were bad cause they equally awesome!
Genres: Comedy, Drama, Romance, School
Synopsis: Futaba Yoshioka used to be an attractive and popular middle-schooler—well liked by the opposite gender, but disliked by the girls. Nevertheless, she was able to brush all that off, because the only opinion that truly mattered to her was that of Kou Tanaka, a classmate with whom she liked alot. She even succeeded at making plans to meet with the Kuo at the summer festival, but Tanaka’s subsequent disappearance, left her walking the halls of her school friendless. Now in high school, Futaba is not your typical adolescent girl. Determined to become a class favorite this time, she avoids all unwanted attention and, instead of acting cute and feminine, only stands out through her tomboyish behavior and disheveled look. But still, her world is soon turned upside down when the only boy she ever liked unexpectedly comes into her life once again—except he goes by the name of Kou Mabuchi now, and it is not his name alone that has gone through a sea change.
3. Heroine Shikkaku (Heroine Disqualified):
Thoughts: Hilarious is the best word to describe this movie. I laughed so much because of this movie but the story itself was very good too.
Genre: Comedy, School, Romance, Drama
Synopsis: Matsuzaki Hatori is a female high school student who has a crush on her childhood friend, Terasaka Rita. She believes her life is like a shojo manga and Rita will eventually choose her as his heroine. However, Rita begins dating Adachi Miho, a nerdy girl in their classroom. Even though Rita dated before, Hatori feels that Rita really likes Miho and it is the first time Hatori feels threatened by Rita’s girl. Because of Hatori’s jealousy, the most popular playboy student, Hiromitsu Kosuke, takes an interest in Hatori.
