ByAtiqa Akbar

CHAPTER 2

(BLURB)On the way back, she had gotten a flat tire and had grabbed her keys and flashlight and had stepped out of the car to try to bail a cab. A few steps away had she realized that there would be no cabs around on a desolate road at midnight. The situation screamed ‘danger’

(BLURB)Watch your tongue, little red. You do not want to anger me. I did not come to you. YOU wandered into MY territory while I was in shifter form, while I was hunting, while I was hungry. You should thank your lucky stars I didn’t kill you.

She let out a soft groan as she tried to crack open her eyes. Her head was pounding and her body felt heavy. Gathering her strength, she tried again and slowly her eyes fluttered open.

She was in a dark room that had the musty scent of old cellars. Blinking, she waited for her eyes to adjust to the minimum lighting. When it finally did,her gaze landed on the heavy metal shackles molded to her ankle. She tested the chain and let out a yelp as pain shot through her swollen ankle, reminding her of her fall… and the monster, the red eyed monster. Her cheek throbbed at the memory of his blow.

Assessing her situation, she felt choked by the fear that had her heart in a vicelike grip. Tears burnt at the back of her eyes as she thought about the strange turn of events.
She had been at her best friend’s birthday party. She had left because she had a class in the morning. On the way back, she had gotten a flat tire and had grabbed her keys and flashlight and had stepped out of the car to try to bail a cab. A few steps away had she realized that there would be no cabs around on a desolate road at midnight. The situation screamed ‘danger’.

Then he had walked over and given her that bloodcurdling sneer that had deposited her bruised, battered, and alone.
She was still sniffling when she heard a door somewhere overhead creak open, flooding the cellar with light.
She gasped as her attacker moved down the steps. In her fear,it took her a moment to realize that his eyes were not red as blood like before. They were now a startling ocean blue.

He moved over to stand in front of her. The girl’s startled green eyes were still fixated on his blue ones.
“Yes, they are blue which means I am no longer in my shifter phase. In simple words, when my eyes are blue, I won’t try to eat you,”he deadpanned.

She gasped and then slowly sighed in relief… He smirked and moved into a chair nearby.
“That doesn’t mean I’m letting you go…”
“Why not?”

“Well, I don’t need hunters on my back…do I, little red?”
“I won’t tell anyone. Please. Have mercy,” she sniffed.
He gave her an annoyed glare.

“Enough with the blubbering. Be you are alive, little fool.”
“WHAT DO YOU WANT?WHAT HAVE I EVER DONE TO YOU,YOU BEAST?”
His eyes took on a dangerous glint as tiny red flecks appeared in them. His voice was steel in cased in velvet as he spoke.

“Watch your tongue, little red. You do not want to anger me. I did not come to you. YOU wandered into MY territory while I was in shifter form, while I was hunting, while I was hungry. You should thank your lucky stars I didn’t kill you.”
He stood abruptly.

“You shall have food and water and when you have regained some of your IMPECCABLE strength,” he touched the cheek she had hurt, but it had healed, “then we shall converse.”
He moved to the door, lit a small lamp next to it and then slammed the door. She heard the jingling of keys as he locked her in the cellar.
